Bandipura Wildlife Sanctuary
|
It is 80 km from Mysore. Situated on the Mysore-Ooty
Road, this
wildlife sanctuary adjoins the Mudumalai Sanctuary of TamilNadu and the
Periyar Sanctuary in Kerala. Bandipur is known for its herds of
bison, spotted deer, elephants and sambhar. Tigers and leopards can be seen
occasionally. The sanctuary has been dedicated to "Project Tiger".
The
Forest Department offers jeeps and trucks and elephant rides within the
sanctuary. Boating facility is also available. October to May is the ideal
time to visit here. For accommodation and transport within the

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
|
It is 16 km from Mysore. This bird sanctuary, spread over an area of
675 hectares, is situated on one of the three islets of the river
Cauvery.It has migrant birds like darters, egrets, spoonbills, white
ibis, open bill storks, night herons, pond herons, etc. Though it is an
all-season scenic spot, the best time for-watching is between June and
September.

National Park (Nagarhole)

Explore the environs of
Nagarhole, Kannada for 'Snake River'. The Rajiv Gandhi National Park
derives its name from the winding course of the river that flows through
the forests. Nagarhole has an astonishing abundance of wildlife,
especially the Asiatic elephant. The backdrop of the distant misty blue
Brahmagiri Mountains and the sounds and sight of the jungle make
Nagarhole a memorable experience.

km from Mercara. The Game Sanctuary here is located along the Kabini
river amid deciduous forests and belts of swampy grounds at the head of
small winding streams.

Kokkrebellur Pelicanry
|
Every year, hundreds of winged visitors come
together to set up a unique orchestra at Kokkrebellur with their shrill
cries and cacophonous calls. You can watch the performances of painted
storks and pelicans, as well as the seemingly frail but gregarious
fledlings perched atop the tamarind, peepul, and Portia trees dotting the
village. These birds have become an integral part of this tiny hamlet in
the sugarcane-rich Mandya district.

B R Hills Sanctuary

A unique blend of hill resort and wildlife
sanctuary, the hills take their name from the ancient Ranganatha Swamy
Temple. Find inner peace at the foot of the great champak tree (Dodda
Sampige),believed to be more than 2,000 years old and worshipped by the
Soligas, the tribals of that area .Don't miss the coffee estates, the
tribal hamlets and the Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra which
displays preserved tribal information and the biodiversity of the
region.
