About KRS Dam (Krishna Raja Sagara)

Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam is one of Karnataka's most significant engineering landmarks and a popular tourist destination located around 20 km from Mysuru in the Mandya district. Built across the River Kaveri (Cauvery), the dam forms the large KRS Reservoir, which plays an important role in supplying drinking water to several cities, including Mysuru and Bengaluru, while also supporting irrigation across the surrounding agricultural regions.

Construction of the dam began in 1911 under the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and was completed in 1932. The project was designed by the renowned engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, whose innovative ideas made the dam one of the most remarkable engineering achievements of its time.
